So is everyone that I know. And I don\u2019t mean tired as in \u201cdidn\u2019t get enough sleep last night\u201d or \u201cworked too much in the last couple days.\u201d I mean bone-tired. Exhausted. Spent. Spooned out and burned out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s been over a year of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/disabilityvisibilityproject.com\/2023\/12\/02\/why-palestinian-liberation-is-disability-justice\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bearing witness to genocide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in real time, funded and armed by my government. Over four years of witnessing consistent COVID denialism, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/abled-bodied-leftists-cannot-abandon-disabled-solidarity-to-move-on-from-covid\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even and especially from the left<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/anarchistagency.com\/mia-mingus-you-are-not-entitled-to-our-deaths-covid-abled-supremacy-interdependence\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">utter abandonment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of those most vulnerable \u2013 those deemed most disposable and most expendable. Decades of witnessing a rising tide of open and unabashed white supremacy and Christo-fascism at home and abroad. Surviving amidst <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yesmagazine.org\/opinion\/2019\/07\/31\/climate-change-queer-disabled-organizers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate catastrophe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> generating <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yaleclimateconnections.org\/2024\/10\/climate-change-made-hurricane-helene-and-other-2024-disasters-more-damaging-scientists-find\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">deadlier hurricanes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/story\/how-climate-change-making-record-breaking-floods-new-normal\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">floods<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/story\/2023\/08\/wildfires-are-much-worse-than-a-sign-of-climate-change-says-expert\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wildfires<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and hyper-consumerism and racialized capitalism that\u2019s gutting lives and livelihoods and contributing all the more to disablement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m tired of hearing people who are supposed to be on my side, who claim to care about social justice and human rights, weaponize the very same ableist beliefs that they should be fighting against. But investing in oppressive beliefs is nothing new.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was at the Democratic National Convention this August and what I witnessed exhausted me. I was one of only a handful of people (of tens of thousands) I ever saw wearing masks. Between the United Center and McCormick Place, CART captioning and American Sign Language interpretation were at times only sporadically available \u2013 even in the Disability Caucus \u2013 with no reliable or consistent signage indicating physically accessible pathways or support for communication or sensory access needs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kamala Harris spoke glowingly about \u201cthe deadliest military in the world\u201d while tens of thousands of U.S.-flag waving spectators cheered \u201cUSA! USA! USA!\u201d sending chills through my entire body. The U.S. military is the single largest polluter on the planet. Meanwhile, the U.S. empire is responsible for committing and enabling atrocities and war crimes and overthrowing sovereign governments worldwide from Chile to Palestine to Laos to Ethiopia to Afghanistan, not to mention within its own borders against Native\/Indigenous tribal nations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like many organizers, I woke up after the convention and again after the election to messages running the gamut from shock (laughable, in my opinion) to horror (very reasonable) to fierce determination to keep organizing no matter what \u2013 as we always have done, no matter which politicians or parties hold power. There is no U.S. President who has ever been innocent; the very position of the presidency requires upholding and maintaining the U.S. empire. All candidates, as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aprilrosenblum.com\/longgameblog\/how-to-vote-like-a-radical\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">April Rosenblum reminds us<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, become our opponents once they hold the office of President, no matter how nicely they articulated their policies around civil rights, tokenized marginalized advocates for social justice causes, and co-opted activist terminology while campaigning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what I do know is that global fascism has been on the rise for a very long time, not just within these borders. And fascism, as always, is a profoundly eugenicist political machine and ideology, rooted in and shaped by ableism just as all forms of oppression and domination are.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No party or leader is exempt from this ableism, and it also comes in spades even from those ostensibly on our side. Over the past year, we\u2019ve borne witness to ableism over and over again in the political sphere, reflecting back ableism that shows up in the everyday lives of ordinary people:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Donald Trump\u2019s repeated attacks on Kamala Harris calling her \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbc.co.uk\/news\/donald-trump-brands-kamala-harris-a-low-iq-person-during-salem-rally\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a low IQ individual<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d and \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/trump-says-kamala-harris-prosecuted-border-actions-rcna173194\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mentally impaired<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d Mass media speculation over Joe Biden\u2019s \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/joy-behar-calls-out-the-view-cohost-alyssa-farah-griffin-joe-biden-senior-moment-8670469\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">senior moments<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d and the possibility of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2024-07-09\/column-heres-why-biden-should-be-tested-and-the-results-should-be-made-public\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dementia or another neurological disorder<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Mockery when Biden struggled to complete sentences (\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.meaww.com\/senile-grandfather-joe-biden-struggled-to-complete-sentences-a-year-before-dropping-out-reveals-book\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">senile<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d), when Trump spoke in meandering, off-topic soliloquies (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/donald-trump-detroit-ramble_n_6708d8aae4b0c34b3eba97a4?21q\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cnot well,\u201d questioning \u201cmental capacity\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), when Harris\u2019 verbosity is described as \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/us-news\/kamala-harris-worst-word-salads\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">word salad<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d \u2013 all of which are often characteristics of neurodivergent people of all types. When Trump used two hands to hold a cup instead of one, failed to open a garbage truck door during a political stunt, and simply exists in a body mocked as ugly and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/21604851.2021.2014121\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fat<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Snide commentary from the alleged left that for nearly a decade has painted Trump as unfit for office not because of his white supremacist allegiances and admitted sexual abuse, but because of his perceived learning disabilities (\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/inside-the-rumors-donald-trump-cant-read\/ar-AA1p4jdg\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he can\u2019t read<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5690324\/donald-trump-ignorance\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ignorant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/encounter\/2021\/12\/michael-wolff-trump-is-absolutely-stone-stupid-literally-crazy-he-really-knows-nothing-about-anything\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stupid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d), psychosocial disabilities (\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2016\/06\/the-mind-of-donald-trump\/480771\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">narcissist<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/newsletters\/archive\/2024\/06\/the-unadorned-truth-about-donald-trump\/678816\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">emotionally unstable<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/uproxx.com\/viral\/trump-psychopath-harvard-professor\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">psychopath<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/paranoid-politics-how-does-donald-trump-get-away-with-it-64157\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">paranoid<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2019\/07\/07\/donald-trump-germaphobe-1399258\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">germaphobic tendencies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d), and physical appearance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then came the announcement of Tim Walz\u2019s nomination for the Vice Presidential slot on the Democratic ticket for 2024, on stage at the United Center. As Walz accepted the nomination, his son Gus cried a stream of happy tears, shouting, \u201cThat\u2019s my dad!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right-wing media immediately erupted with vicious attacks describing Gus as a beta male, weak, representative of the inevitable end product of the left\u2019s alleged degeneracy in promoting feminism and rights for queer and trans people. When confronted with the fact that Gus has a learning\/developmental disability, the tenor of the comments changed ever so briefly, with a classic fauxpology. Of course they didn\u2019t mean to attack <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a disabled person!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These comments had assumed Gus was neurotypical and deserved to be mocked, ridiculed, and degraded for the audacity of being male and crying in public.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The left\u2019s response to these comments, like the left\u2019s generally apathetic (at best) attitude toward ableism, was to decry the deep insult and offense when disabled people are mocked. But once again, these responses failed to capture the root of the problem, just as the left\u2019s response to Trump\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-34930042\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mockery of disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> did years ago.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fascist, eugenicist ideologies valorize the mythology of strength, health, and masculinity, while demeaning any actual or perceived weakness, sickness, or femininity as degeneracy (with limited exceptions for submissive, Christian white women\u2019s femininity). Within these ideologies, disability is a burdensome and loathsome cost \u2013 a drain on society. Disability is also embedded in the rhetoric used to demonize queer and trans people, as evidenced by the liberal nonsense giving rise to further insults on Trump about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/feministing.com\/2016\/08\/19\/psa-your-transphobia-and-body-shaming-isnt-radical\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the size of his penis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/opinion\/here-s-why-trans-people-aren-t-on-board-with-this-controversial-elon-musk-insult\/ar-AA1uIMql\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">use of the feminized \u201cElonia\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to mock his notoriously anti-trans billionaire supporter Elon Musk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nazi propaganda posters from the Third Reich depicted caricatures of people with nebulously defined physical and mental disabilities (hunched over, drooling, with blank expressions) in contrast to images of healthy, strong, nondisabled families. These posters explicitly compared the cost to society of maintaining the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lebensunwertes Leben <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(\u201clife unworthy of life\u201d) to the cost of supporting a presumptively nondisabled family. During the Holocaust, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/09\/13\/opinion\/nazis-holocaust-disabled.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aktion T4 pioneered mass murder by first designating disabled people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for forced slaughter to test the tools that would be used to engineer genocide of Jews, Roma, and all other people deemed undesireable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Nazi party also orchestrated major book burnings, destroying texts held by the archives of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/the-forgotten-history-of-the-worlds-first-trans-clinic\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Institut f\u00fcr Sexualwissenschaft (Institute for Sexual Science\/Sexology), the very first sexology research center in the world<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which also performed gender-confirmation surgeries. Later, the Nazi party criminalized queerness and other perceived sexual or gender transgression, paving the way for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/encyclopedia.ushmm.org\/content\/en\/article\/gay-men-under-the-nazi-regime\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mass murder of people who were actually queer or trans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or perceived as such. The same rhetoric advanced by the Nazis to describe all people whose sexuality, intimacies, and gender expressions were perceived as deviant is still alive today \u2013 and commonplace within the far right and increasingly, the mainstream right. They still call us degenerates today, and people who care about protecting queer and trans people\u2019s lives should know the chilling history of this term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gus Walz was ridiculed and attacked because of toxic masculinity and cis-hetero-patriarchal ideals that idealize a version of masculinity in which men and boys , especially white ones, do not cry or show emotions. If men and boys <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cry or show emotions, they are then femininized \u2013 their gender and sexuality can both come into question. This only becomes possible because of the pre-existing ideas that femininity and queerness are themselves inherently degrading or lesser states, and that white masculinity depends on projecting strength.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disability becomes one of the only available defenses to the charge of beta masculinity \u2013 a disabled person is exempt from the expectations of toxic masculinity because disabled people are so often forcibly degendered, that is, denied recognition of our actual femininity or masculinity. Meanwhile, rhetorically attacking a disabled person is positioned as uniquely horrifying and offensive from a paternalistic and patronizing view of disability that paints disabled people as permanently innocent and infantile \u2013 yet disabled people comprise the vast majority of people <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abolitionistlawcenter.org\/2019\/09\/05\/the-abolitionist-framework-must-combat-ableism-in-order-to-ensure-the-freedom-and-equity-of-those-behind-bars\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">incarcerated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/understanding-policing-black-disabled-bodies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">killed by police<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-10\/People%20with%20Disabilities%20Living%20in%20the%20US%20Face%20Urgent%20Barriers%20to%20Housing_0.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">experiencing homelessness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Apologizing for inadvertently insulting someone over a perceived manifestation of their disability becomes a point of superficial \u201cprogressivism\u201d or \u201cinclusion,\u201d while disabled people are dying because of structural ableism and other forms of oppression, violence, abuse, and neglect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disabled people of all genders (and agender and genderless disabled people) deserve to have the full range of emotions as experienced and expressed as nondisabled people \u2013 as do all people, regardless of gender. And we should weep \u2013 and rage \u2013 and grieve \u2013 and seek pleasure, rest, comfort, and joy wherever we can find and cultivate them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gus Walz deserved his moment of joy \u2013 regardless of his gender and whether or not he had a disability.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It wasn\u2019t wrong to mock him because he had a disability. It was wrong to mock him because it is wrong to mock <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anyone<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for displaying their tenderness and vulnerability. It was wrong to mock him because those who did so only chose to target him because his father is a prominent Democratic leader and he happened to be male. It was wrong to mock him because people who hold far less power than anyone in the Walz family or at the center of the Democratic party can face deadly consequences when our gender presentations, emotional expressions, and disabled existence do not conform to societal expectations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rest of us deserve far better and much more than vapid, hypocritical apologies and call-outs for insulting a disabled person, when real disabled people are dying. In just the last year alone, our community has witnessed an endless train of immeasurable loss \u2013 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/honoring-tinus-legacy-with-compassionate-support\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atinuke \u201cTinu\u201d Abayomi Paul<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/notdeadyet.org\/in-memoriam-diane-coleman\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diane Coleman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetransmitter.org\/spectrum\/the-legacy-of-steve-silberman-and-his-book-neurotribes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Silberman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncd.gov\/2023\/12\/04\/ncd-colleagues-remember-andres-gallegos\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andr\u00e9s Gallegos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allsides.com\/news\/2024-06-25-1716\/general-news-award-winning-poet-blade-contributor-kathi-wolfe-dies\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kathi Wolfe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hollistonreporter.com\/deola-phair\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deola Elaine Phair<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abilities.com\/community\/stevie.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stevie Hopkins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammandwitman.com\/obituaries\/Paul-A-Fogle?obId=33647962\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul Fogle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/obituaries\/mark-s-partin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mark Partin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and so many others. Meanwhile, in just one year, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/english.palinfo.com\/reports\/2024\/10\/13\/326934\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the number of disabled people in Palestine has grown exponentially<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newarab.com\/features\/how-israels-war-gaza-has-devastated-disabled-community\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">multiple categories of disability, illness, and injury<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during Israel\u2019s genocidal campaign masquerading as war, which has had catastrophic effects on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/report\/2024\/09\/30\/they-destroyed-what-was-inside-us\/children-disabilities-amid-israels-attacks-gaza\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Palestinians who were already disabled and those who are newly disabled<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While much of the progressive world is in mourning and disbelief about Harris&#8217;s loss to Trump, those of us who&#8217;ve been in the trenches in struggles for liberation were neither surprised nor shocked. Even had Harris won, we would have had to prepare for mass deportations, a return to tough on crime policies that harm marginalized communities most, and a continuation of U.S. support for apartheid and genocide in Palestine. The impending Trump inauguration has stoked very real fears of increased state repression, particularly targeting queer and trans people, Palestinian solidarity organizers (including the many of us who are Jewish), people who can become pregnant and give birth, refugees and asylum-seekers and all others with precarious immigration status, and disabled people dependent on government-funded programs and services \u2013 among <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so many others<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The list of dangerous and potentially deadly policy proposals coming from Project 2025 and the transition team seems overwhelming and terrifying and of course \u2013 exhausting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I know you are tired too. But disabled people have always been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.disabilitylead.org\/stories\/from-access-to-liberation\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">freedom fighters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/to-survive-the-trumpocalypse-we-need-wild-disability-justice-dreams\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dream weavers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachthefuture.uk\/blog\/all-we-have-is-each-other-climate-change-and-disability-justice\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">community builders<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.talilalewis.com\/blog\/fighting-for-freedom-the-expense-of-erasure\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social justice engineers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We know how to survive and fight back when the state criminalizes us, pathologizes us, and tries to disappear us. We\u2019ve done it through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/inthesetimes.com\/article\/disabled-queer-activists-isolation-mutual-aid-bay-area-covid-19\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wildfires<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kqed.org\/news\/11806414\/coronavirus-how-these-disabled-activists-are-taking-matters-into-their-own-sanitized-hands\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pandemics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chuffed.org\/project\/crips-for-esims-for-gaza\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">genocide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We\u2019ve kept <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/assatashakur.org\/mypeople.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">loving and supporting each other<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through every U.S. presidential administration before and we were prepared to keep doing it no matter who won the election. I believe in a future in which our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theanarchistlibrary.org\/library\/johanna-hedva-sick-woman-theory\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sickness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/aaww.org\/claiming-unwellness-an-interview-with-mimi-khuc\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unwellness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, frailty, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/manifold.umn.edu\/read\/crip-negativity\/section\/45dbbde9-3ec3-4e95-9fac-59a110b9625a\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">messiness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are no longer equated with unworthiness, expendability, or disposability. A future where marginalized communities no longer hinge hopes and dreams for life, love, and liberation on political parties and leaders that do not care about justice, care, or accountability. A future where we orient our world around Disability Justice principles prioritizing radical care and rest as practices of justice made manifest.
